Hotel Room (dis)Service

Since checking into this hotel last Saturday (...and I cannot stress enough how I do not hate hotels but that I generally don't sleep well inside them!), there have been constant 4 a.m. disturbances from exuberant European teenagers daily. From my room, I can hear footsteps, and really reckless shouting mostly in a language I do not understand.

It is bad enough that I don't sleep well but with all this craziness going on outside, I'm sure everyone on the 10th floor is wide awake.

So finally, today the lady from across me complains and two hotel fu wu yuan come up trying to talk to the European teenagers in Chinese.  I would have laughed out loud had it not been almost sunrise. It did look funny from where I was standing.  Two young Chinese bellhops talking to European kids in Chinese and they just look at each other- lost in translation.

I don't know if it was the trainer in me, but I opened the door again and translated to all the kids outside my door.  The European apologized profusely.  He probably didn't think anybody was actually sleeping in their rooms at four in the morning. (Einstein that one!!!)  So I told the kid that he had to keep it down because everyone around him was awake, and to the 2 appreciative young fu wu yuan, I said, "He's apologizing for the noise.  Everything is fine now."

Then the lady from across me opens the door in stellar timing and starts shouting at the fu wu yuan (Yeah, bark at them lady like it's their fault!), and when she sees me, she starts barking at them while giving me the eye, insinuating that all the hoopla going on was caused by the Europeans and myself.  For a second I wanted to give her a piece of my mind but decided to just close the door and blog.  The fu wu yuan then went on to explain that I was just there to translate for everyone.

I can't begin to imagine how differently this scene would look had it happened with a Shanghainese lady.  The boys would all be breakfast for sure.  Eggs over easy for sure.  Haha!
